Brazil’s first 100% digital solar energy park opens in Caldas Novas (GO)

In an unprecedented initiative, Sicoob UniCentro Br inaugurated, on December 19th, the first 100% digital solar energy park in Brazil – according to Urban Tech, Companhia de Intelligence Urbana e Serviços S/A – to meet the electrical demand of the city. institution. The ceremony took place in Caldas Novas – a municipality located 170 km from Goiânia – and was attended by the entire board of directors of the largest financial cooperative in the state of Goiás and one of the five largest in the Sicoob System in the country. The mayor of the municipality was also present , Kleber Luiz Marra, and cooperative member Geraldo Mendonça, who was honored with his name given to the park.

With a focus on sustainability, the Geraldo Mendonça photovoltaic park with 100% digital solar energy

The photovoltaic plant was built on a 10,000 m² plot of land that houses 1,098 panels with an installed power of 750 KWp, which will generate, on average, 90,750 KWh/month of clean, sustainable, efficient and economical electrical energy. From the start of production at the plant in January 2024, annual savings of more than R$1 million are expected for the financial institution. According to the CEO of Sicoob UniCentro Br, Diogo Mafia, initially, the project will supply the 25 branches located in the state of Goiás, but the park is planned to be expanded to double production and meet the electrical demand of all service points. of the financial cooperative.

Sicoob UniCentro Br comes into full operation in January 2024, to meet its own electrical demand

In a scenario of growing concern about climate change and the search for cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, cooperatives stand out as pioneers with innovative solutions. In his speech during the inauguration, Diogo highlighted that the park is an important milestone within the ESG guidelines (acronym for Environmental, Social and Governance, in free translation: Environment, Society and Governance), which cooperatives carry in their pillars. The big news in this project is that the operation can be controlled 100% digitally, which integrates the monitoring of security systems and flow and access control, plant air conditioning and even intelligent communication with energy inverters and integrated systems maintenance and measurement.

Estimates

According to estimates from the investment analysis carried out by the cooperative, with the start of its own energy production, in 25 years, 8,057 tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide) will no longer be emitted into the atmosphere. According to the study, it would be necessary to plant 57,570 trees, at a total cost of R$1,151,400, to eliminate this amount of CO2. And, still focusing on sustainability, since December 20th, six branches in Goiânia and the branch in Caldas Novas now have stations for charging electric and hybrid cars, which will further contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases. greenhouse emitted into the atmosphere.

Homage

The moment the tribute was revealed in front of the plant’s portico was marked by a lot of emotion, as doctor Geraldo Mendonça was surprised with the honorable mention. During a thank you speech, Geraldo, who is one of the founders of Hospital e Maternidade Nossa Senhora Aparecida de Caldas Novas, highlighted that taking Sicoob UniCentro Br to the municipality of high tourist and economic value for the State, formed a link that allowed expansion from the cooperative to Tocantins, Federal District and São Paulo. “We worked hard for this and it was our obligation, but we managed to do it with great pleasure and achieve the success that is Sicoob UniCentro Br today. So, I accept and sincerely thank you for the honor”, he celebrated.

Impact on the regional economic environment with 100% digital solar energy

For Diogo Mafia, it is a matter of appreciation and recognition to promote a project of this scale in Caldas Novas, as it was the first city to receive the cooperative outside of Goiânia. Furthermore, he pointed out: “It is essential that we, who have this responsibility towards our society and the environment, promote initiatives like this. May we be able to encourage other companies too, may they see how we can positively impact our environment.” In the same sense, the president of Central Sicoob Uni, Raimundo Nonato, reinforced: “To the extent that it is possible to create a photovoltaic park of this scale, which generates savings and benefits the environment, it is spectacular. I believe this will be a success story.”

The mayor of Caldas Novas, Kleber Luiz Marra congratulated the financial cooperative project and celebrated the municipality’s participation in the pioneering initiative. “We know that renewable energy is one of the ways to preserve the planet. So, I see this with great satisfaction, knowing that Caldas today is a mirror for the State and for the whole of Brazil, and for having Sicoob UniCentro Br believing in this city’s potential. Thank you very much to everyone who came up with this idea of structuring one of the largest photovoltaic plants in Goiás here”, he confirmed.
