10,000 to 12,000 businesses are “missing” – AADE hunt begins – 2024-04-07 18:02:33

The interconnection of POS with cash registers is in the final stretch and according to all indications, as well as the statements from the leaders of the Ministry of National Economy, there will not be any further extension and it seems that the vast majority of businesses have complied with this , according to the AADE.

According to the data announced by the relevant ministry, more than 255,000 businesses have either completed (145,000) the interconnection of cash registers with POS, or have made an appointment with a technician (110,000) by the end of April, making the relevant required post on the AADE platform.

However, there is a percentage of about 10% that have done none of the above and for the state apparatus, as far as the specific project is concerned, i.e. that of the interconnection, these companies are… invisible. According to the calculations, the number of businesses amounts to approximately 30,000.

However, a number of around 20,000 are seasonal businesses which by law have a margin of interconnection until the previous day of their opening.

So there are the rest that no one knows about because they have not done the obvious and have blatantly ignored the deadlines set by AADE and the Ministry of National Economy, as well as the warnings about the imposition of fines.

As has been announced by AADE, the checks and imposition of fines on the offenders are already starting. Initially, businesses that have not proceeded with the interconnection will receive a notification to immediately proceed with the interconnection or make an appointment with a technician, so as to avoid the fine.

The first information that should be given to AADE is the reason for the delay. That is, if it is due to force majeure or negligence. Subsequently, the Authority will take action that the legislation provides for these cases.

According to information, direction has been given by the leadership of AADE and the ministry, that in that case and only then, when it is proven that there are reasons of force majeure for the delay, each case should be treated with relative leniency.

If this does not happen, then the prescribed fines will be imposed, 10,000 – 20,000 euros depending on whether they keep simple or double-sided data.

These fines are halved for businesses that are established in settlements with a population of up to 500 inhabitants and on islands with a population of up to 3,100 inhabitants (except for tourist ones). In case of recurrence within five years, the fines are doubled and for each subsequent violation they are tripled.

AADE is already dusting off 1,072 businesses with a turnover of more than 1 million euros, which have not complied, in the first phase and in the coming days it is going to be extended to the rest of the businesses regardless of turnover.

In the meantime, AADE has started checks with approximately 50,000 businesses that are obliged to install POS after their expansion in 35 branches and practically throughout the market. Again excluding seasonal businesses, the POS non-installation fine is €1,500 and is now active.

Based on the current provisions, the following have until April 30th to complete the procedure:

  • Businesses that did not proceed with the interconnection of their systems within March, but have a scheduled appointment with an installation technician within April.
  • Businesses that have declared to the POS Registry that they are going to replace their cash register system with one of the newly available all-in-one solutions that do not require additional interface actions.
