Approximately 100 thousand Germans protested in Düsseldorf against the opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD) and right-wing extremism. The city police reported this.
“At its peak, the police estimated the number of people to be approximately 100 thousand people… There were isolated violations of the law on assemblies, including the use of pyrotechnics,” it says press message-departmental services.
The protests lasted for about five hours. During them, there were interruptions in transport communication in the city. According to the city police chief, the demonstration was peaceful and calm.
Protests against right-wing extremism took place not only in Düsseldorf. They covered several more cities.
The demonstrations took place due to media reports that AfD representatives met with leaders of far-right and neo-Nazi organizations in November. At the meeting, a plan was proposed under which hundreds of migrants and political refugees would have to leave the country.
