An 11-year-old boy has died following a tragic go-kart accident in western New York on Sunday afternoon, according to local law enforcement. The fatal incident unfolded when the vehicle he was driving overturned into a body of water in Genesee County.
Deputies from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on Fargo Road in the Town of Darien at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, following reports of an overturned recreational vehicle. Investigators determined that an 11-year-old boy was operating the go-kart when it rolled over, plunging into a nearby pond.
Emergency responders arrived quickly to render aid at the property. Alongside the driver, an 8-year-old girl was riding as a passenger in the go-kart when the accident occurred. First responders evaluated the young girl at the scene, and she was subsequently released without requiring hospitalization.

The driver of the go-kart sustained severe injuries during the rollover. Following initial treatment by emergency medical personnel at the scene, a Mercy Flight medical helicopter was dispatched to transport the 11-year-old boy to Strong Hospital in Rochester for critical care.
Despite the swift response from aviation medical staff and hospital specialists, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical center.
