An 11-year-old Carolo ventured into the North Sea last Thursday and found himself in difficulty: “It was very windy. So the sea was quite rough,” said Tom Cocle, chief lifeguard. “He went beyond the sandbar. There is a deep hole there and at one point he was quickly dragged away”
Fortunately for him, the vigilance of the emergency services enabled him to avoid an outcome which could have been fatal. He only suffered from stomach aches after ingesting water: “He was very impressed and shook for two hours before recovering”, details Tom.
The parents, who were on the beach at the time, are obviously grateful: “On Friday they came to thank us again and also wrote a card for the lifeguards”
