15.5″ MacBook Air may launch in April

At the end of last year, the display production chain analyst Ross Young stated that Apple was developing a model of the MacBook Air with fabric 15.5 inches and that the product would be released in mid-spring (in the northern hemisphere) of this year. Now, Young has endorsed that information and added more details.

According to him, the display of this potential new product would have already entered production, which, if true, makes it possible to present the long-awaited model in the proposed time. He also said he expected the launch to take place in the early Aprilobserving the stage of production.

Apple usually has an event in the spring, in mid-March, when they usually launch some products. Last year, for example, the third-generation iPhone SE was released in this context.

Young, however, did not give more details about the product, which raises questions about aspects such as the processor of this machine. In the last days of 2022, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), Apple’s main chip supplier, began production of processors manufactured in a 3-nanometer process.

Therefore, there are some options: either Apple will launch the 15.5″ MacBook Air with the M2 processor, the same as the current 13.6″ model, or it will already come with a new chip, probably to be named “ M3”. In this case, it is not known whether a new version of the current computer would also be released or if it would only gain the new processor a few months later.

If this novelty materializes, the product could be the largest MacBook Air ever launched, in addition to representing the return of a second model in the computer line. Until 2016, there was also an 11″ version next to the 13″ model. Another rumor echoed in this regard was the return of the 12″ MacBook — although only in 2024, if that happens.

The good news is that we shouldn’t have to wait that long to see if the rumor will come true. According to the information, the launch could take place next month, including the possibility of pre-sales starting a little earlier.
