It is claimed that the Traunseetram stop at Gmunden-Engelhof is the oldest officially listed train station on the European mainland. In 1836 it went into operation together with the Gmunden–Linz horse-drawn railway line. Here, after the steepest passage of the entire railway line, the horses were changed until 1855. After that, steam locomotives replaced the animals.
