Rabat – The 17th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), the 8th Summit of its presidents and the meetings of its standing committees, its bureau and extended bureau will be held on Thursday and Friday , at the headquarters of the House of Representatives.
These meetings will be an opportunity to examine the situation in the Mediterranean region and the role of the Assembly in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the 21st century and to adopt the reports and recommendations of the standing committees and the working group, indicates the House of Representatives in a press release.
It is also about the transfer of the presidency of the AP-UfM to the northern shore of the Mediterranean, in this case to the Spanish Congress of Deputies, adds the same source.
The Kingdom’s House of Representatives is among the founders of the AP-UfM, of which it has held the presidency since April 2022, recalls the same source, noting that Morocco has also hosted several of its sessions and meetings of its permanent committees.
The AP-UfM, which aims to be a space for Mediterranean dialogue and cooperation, meets at least once a year and brings together representatives of elected European Union countries and their partners from the southern Mediterranean countries.
It has five permanent committees, namely: the Committee on Political Affairs, Security and Human Rights, the Committee on the Promotion of Quality of Life, Exchanges between Civil Societies and Culture, the Committee on women’s rights in Euro-Mediterranean countries, the Committee on Energy, Environment and Water and the Economic, Financial, Social Affairs and Education Committee, in addition to a Working Group on financing of the Assembly and on the revision of the rules of procedure.
The AP-UfM Bureau is responsible for coordinating and representing the Assembly, while its extended bureau includes the members of the Bureau and its president, as well as the presidents of the standing committees.
