18 children died after drinking an Indian medicinal drink

The Ministry of Health in Uzbekistan announced that “at least 18 children have died following consuming a medicinal drink produced by the Indian pharmaceutical company Marion Biotec.”

The ministry stated, “18 out of 21 children who took Doc-1 Max syrup, while they were being treated for an acute respiratory disease, died following consuming the syrup. The medicinal syrup is marketed on the company’s website as a treatment for cold and flu symptoms.”

She pointed out that “a quantity of the syrup contained ethylene glycol, which she said was a toxic substance. And she continued in her statement that the Koramax Medical Company imported the syrup to Uzbekistan,” adding that “the syrup was given to children at home without a doctor’s prescription, either from their parents or On the advice of pharmacists, in doses that exceed the standard pediatric dose.

“It was not immediately clear whether or not all or any of the children drank the suspected amount, took doses that exceeded the standard dose, or both,” she said.
