2-Methyl AP237: Uses, Addictive Potential, and Regulations – Egyptian Center for Pharmaceutical Studies

Dr. Ali Abdullah, Director of the Egyptian Center for Pharmaceutical Studies, revealed the uses of the substance 2-Methyl AP237after its inclusion today in Schedule No. 3 attached to Law 182 of 1960, by the Egyptian Medicines Authority.

2-Methyl AB237 is a synthetic opiate with a high addictive potential

Dr. Ali Abdullah explained to Cairo 24 that 2-methyl AP237 is a manufactured opioid, not extracted naturally, and is four times stronger than morphine used for analgesia.

The director of the Egyptian Center for Pharmaceutical Studies added that 2-methyl AP237 has a high addictive and lethal potential. Because of its negative impact on the respiratory center, he stressed that there is no therapeutic product containing this substance on the Egyptian pharmaceutical market.

Dr. Ali Abdullah added that this manufactured opiate substance did not obtain any license from the Egyptian Medicines Authority for medicinal use, explaining the reason for its inclusion in the drug schedule because there is a legal basis for the use of this substance if it is imported, manufactured, or introduced into another drug.

Earlier, the Official Gazette, in its issue No. 177 issued today, published a major decision Medicine Authority Egyptian No. 476, and Resolution No. 477, regarding the addition of carisoprodol and trizolobenzodiazepine and the materials derived from them, and their salts, analogues, esters, ethers, and analogue salts, esters, and preparations, wherever found, to Paragraph D of Table No. 3 attached to the Egyptian Drug Control Law No. 182 of 1960 and regulating its use and trade.
