The identities of five players from the 2018 Junior Team Canada who were recently notified to turn themselves in to London police to face sexual assault charges have been revealed by TSN.

Relying on two sources familiar with the matter, the network named Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Carter Hart, Calgary Flames forward Dillon Dube as well as New Jersey Devils representatives Michael McLeod and Cal Foote.

Former Ottawa Senators prospect Alex Formenton is the fifth hockey player involved. The identity of the man who until recently was operating in Switzerland was already known, since his lawyer revealed the matter on Sunday, after his client handed himself in to the authorities in London.

The four players playing for a National League team all received indefinite leave of absence from their respective teams last week.

Lawyers for the four Bettman Tour skaters declined to comment or did not respond to TSN’s requests for comment.

In June 2018, several players allegedly gang-raped a woman in a hotel room in London, after a gala in that city highlighting the gold medal won by ÉCJ the previous winter. The victim subsequently filed a lawsuit, but everything was settled out of court with financial compensation of $3.55 million, thanks to a Hockey Canada reserve fund, which plunged the national federation into deep embarrassment. Several sponsors – including Nike, Tim Hortons and Imperial Oil – subsequently dropped the organization.

The NHL opened an internal investigation in May 2022, after the first revelations about ECJ 2018. For the moment, the Bettman circuit has not revealed the results of this.

For their part, the London police were able to carry out their own research by obtaining approval from the Ontario provincial court, believing they had sufficient reason to believe that five members of the team committed a sexual assault.

Last Wednesday, when it confirmed the filing of charges, the authorities of the Ontario municipality indicated that they would hold a press conference on this subject on February 5. The four NHL players are expected to travel to London before the event. They would have to be photographed, fingerprinted and they would have to sign an undertaking not to have contact with the alleged victim.
