The 2022 F1 World Championship will introduce a completely new F1 car with the introduction of new regulations. Therefore, the announcement of a new car is more exciting than in previous seasons.
F1 has renewed the concept with new regulations so that machines can fight more closely. The basic design of the F1 car has shifted from an aerodynamically dependent philosophy to a grand effect car, and the F1 team is seen as a great opportunity to change the power map.
The 2022 F1 pre-season test will start on February 23 at the Catalan circuit in Barcelona. Prior to that, the schedule for new car announcements for each team became clear.
At the moment, Aston Martin and McLaren will announce a new car ahead of all teams on February 11th.
Mercedes (Machine name) W13 (Announcement date) To be determined
“W13” will be the 13th machine for Mercedes F1. Last year, the team already shifted to the development of the 2021 F1 car as of June. Round 10 F1 British Grand Prix was the last major update. There was a reliability problem with the engine later in the season, but I didn’t dare to fix it and focused on 2022. W13 has finished the first start of the engine ahead of all teams, appealing for smooth development. Also, it is rumored that the W13 will be revived with the “Silver Arrow” coloring instead of the black used in the last two seasons.
Red bull (Machine name) RB18 (Announcement date) To be determined
Red Bull continued to update until the second half of the season in contrast to Mercedes F1 as Max Verstappen competed for the title until the final race. But the design team, led by Adrian Newey, is confident in interpreting the new regulations. In 2021, the chassis of the previous year was used, so the name “RB17” was omitted and the machine name “RB16B” was used. The RB18 is the 18th machine. The engine will be the name of Red Bull Powertrains, but the contents will be made by Honda, which Honda F1 is continuing to develop. The announcement date of the new car is undecided, but it has announced a unique launch using social media and so on.
Ferrari (Machine name) To be determined (Announcement date) February 17
In 2021, Ferrari regained its position to 3rd place in the Constructors. He has professed to be the earliest among the top players to focus on the 2022 F1 car. In the latter half of the season, a hybrid system of the newly developed 2022 F1 power unit will be introduced to collect data. It is rumored that an aggressive nose design and pull-rod suspension will be adopted, saying that “many innovations” will be brought about in terms of chassis. As usual, the machine name will not be disclosed until the recital. The new car will be unveiled on February 17th.
McLaren (Machine name) MCL36 (Announcement date) February 11
In recent years, McLaren is regaining its competitiveness. Last year, I carried a handicap that I could not change the chassis by switching to Mercedes F1 engine, but I still finished in 4th place in the ranking. This year, the understanding of Mercedes F1 engine has improved, and it is considered as a dark hose because it is possible to design a dedicated chassis. It will be unveiled at the McLaren Technology Center on February 11th.

Alpine has been developing engines for the introduction of new regulations since the Renault era. With the postponement of the new coronavirus, the new regulation has been postponed for one year, and the new F1 engine that was originally scheduled to be introduced in 2010 will be fully released. Although the machine name and announcement date are undecided, it was explained that “A521”, the first F1 machine of Alpine F1, was given a symbol named after Alpine A500, and 21 of A521 represents 2021. Therefore, “A522” should be the name of the 2022 F1 car. It is rumored that BWT will be sponsored in 2022 and that the pink color will be incorporated into the car.
Alpha Tauri (Machine name) AT03 (Announcement date) To be determined
AlphaTauri has matured the parts of Red Bull that have fallen out of shape, but this season when the regulations are renewed, parts of Red Bull RB18 will be introduced. The gearbox, hydraulic pressure and rear suspension will be the same as the Red Bull RB18. The engine is also equipped with Honda made by Red Bull Powertrains. The name “AT03” will be given to the third unit after the brand change to Alpha Tauri.
Aston Martin (Machine name) AMR22 (Announcement date) February 11
The second “AMR22” after changing its name to Aston Martin. Two years have passed since he copied the concept of Mercedes F1 during the Racing Point era, and the understanding of the concept of the champion team has increased. The racing green in the first year does not look good on TV, and AMR22 plans to change to a more vivid coloring.
Williams (Machine name) FW44 (Announcement date) February 11
Williams was competitive last year. The 2022 machine “FW44” uses a Mercedes gearbox in addition to the engine. Williams is the only one who hasn’t tested 18-inch tires because he couldn’t get a mule car.
Alfa Romeo (Machine name) C40 (Announcement date) Undecided
Since the 2022 F1 machine was developed first, the machine was “C41” last year, but the 2022 F1 machine is scheduled to be named “C40”.
Haas F1 (Machine name) VF-22 (Announcement date) Undecided
Haas F1’s new car “VF-22” will be the first machine designed in the design office set up on Ferrari’s premises. In recent years, the technical tie-up with Ferrari F1 has been strengthened, and the VF-22 should be able to purchase parts and assemble Ferrari’s 2022 F1 machine as long as the regulations allow. Having finished focusing on the development of the 2022 F1 machine without the development of 2021, the VF-22 has already passed the crash test and aims to escape from the end.
The 2022 pre-season test will be conducted twice for three days, the first at the Catalonia Circuit in Barcelona from February 23rd to 25th and the second at the Bahrain International Circuit from March 11th. It will be held on the 13th and will start at the F1 Bahrain GP on March 20th.
