The cumulative global sales of PlayStation 5 consoles exceeded 20 million units, and production capacity will be significantly increased to meet market demand
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced today (6/7) that the latest-generation game console PlayStation 5 (PS5), which was launched in November 2020, has surpassed 20 million units globally, taking a total of 19 months. 16 months from the previous generation PlayStation 4 console.
After the PS5 console was launched in November 2020, it reached 10 million sales in July the following year, one month faster than the PS4 console, becoming the fastest console in the PlayStation family to reach 10 million sales. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the supply chain and logistics, the production of the console was not as expected and might not meet the market demand. Therefore, the PS4 console was 3 months behind the PS4 console in reaching the milestone of 20 million units.
In response, the official said in a statement that it plans to significantly increase the production of PS5 consoles this year, so that anyone who wants to get a PS5 console can have it.
