Qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the 22nd and penultimate round of the Formula 1 season, took place this Saturday morning (midnight in Vegas), the day after a chaotic day marked by a manhole cover problem and a second endless free practice session.

Very comfortable on urban circuits, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) won the 23rd pole position of his career. The Monegasque will set off in front Max Verstappen (Red Bull) et George Russell (Mercedes). Pierre Gasly (Alpine) and Alexander Albon (Williams) complete the top 5. Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), author of the 2nd fastest time, will only start 12th after being penalized by ten places on Friday.

The qualifying session held a few surprises including the early eliminations of the two McLarens in Q1. Yet second in the last free practice session this morning, Oscar Piastri only achieved the 19th fastest time. His teammate Lando Norrisnot very confident since his arrival in Vegas, did little better (16th).

Was Q2 fatal to the seven-time world champion? Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), eliminated for 28 thousandths, and to the Mexican Sergio Perez (Red Bull) while Charles Leclerc already achieved the best time there.

In Q3, Leclerc showed that he was the fastest on this circuit with a solid time of 1: 32.726. We will note the very good performances of Albon and Logan Sargeant, respectively 6th and 7th. The two Williams drivers will start on the third row following the penalty imposed on Sainz.

Meet this Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. on Tipik to experience the penultimate race of the 2023 season.
