PROFILE

PERSONAL & COLLECTIVE CONTEXT

Gregory Jackson II is a pure product of South Carolina. Originally from Ridgeview, he embodies the region. Having played basketball in all his respective schools, he was always considered a dominant player possessing high-flying stats. Averaging double-doubles since college, he’s been ranked as five star rookie and it was with fervor and impatience that college basketball fans awaited his choice.

Top prospect in the region, he decides at first to engage with UNC much to the chagrin of all of South Carolina. Rejecting offers from Duke and Georgetown, he wanted more than anything to stay in his native region. Nevertheless, GG Jackson does not do things like the others, like a certain… JR Smith. If the comparison can be more or less flattering, it is nevertheless sensible. Indeed, the former NBA champion was until then the last player to have withdrawn from North Carolina’s XXL program.

This last-minute change leads to the signing of the young player with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Author of a correct season, GG Jackson however blew hot and cold during the season. In the oven and in the mill in a fairly weak team, he achieved good individual performances but also experienced some rather exceptional air pockets. He was sometimes even benched but he is a very young player who is learning and who, for sure, should progress.

These different situations, more or less easy to manage, led the winger to complain via a live Instagram. Dissatisfied with his role and its use, he expressed it loud and clear in front of the whole world. This type of situation raises questions about the character of the young man and his ability to manage the frustration that the high level can cause.

Considered a very intriguing prospect on which a bet could be attempted, he has very specific characteristics that make him a special player.

PLAYER DESCRIPTION

By joining South Carolina, GG Jackson made the choice of the heart. Nevertheless, basketballistically speaking, this choice has shown real limits. First of all, collectively the south carolina team is very weak compared to other big chunks in the division. In a very physical conference, GG Jackson sometimes struggled despite his above-average attributes for such a young player.

It is always difficult to evaluate a prospect in such a collective context. Should he be a leader and lead his team towards results beyond expectations or should we temper and evaluate only the individual as such?

Regarding the qualities of the 18-year-old boy, the one that jumps out at first is his athleticism and that amazing physique. Much more advanced than the young players of his age, he had the opportunity to rub shoulders with prospects much older than him. With a excellent handle for its sizehe was very often in a one-on-one position and sometimes had a tendency to lock themselves into this pattern. This is explained by the poor quality of his teammates who struggled to exist collectively.

Considered a scorer, Jackson showed ball-in-hand facilities. Il can create their own shoot but his percentages were far below what we could imagine when he entered the NCAA. Indeed, in High School, the flashes were present but during this season, it is more worrying. His poor free-throw success is probably the most striking statistic. 67,7% for a player who may have to go on the line it is problematic.

GG Jackson is also a good rebounder. He excels when he takes the rebound and short in transition. Difficult to stop when he is thrown, he will have to progress on the penalty line if he does not want to be slowed down by opponents who will prefer to make mistakes than let him access the circle.

Defensively, GG Jackson has remarkable tools. His physique gives him a definite advantage over his direct opponents. Its length and beautiful mobility allow him to be able to defend at a high level. Nevertheless, and this is balanced once again by his age, he has difficulty staying focused throughout a defensive streak. He is able to read the game and analyze situationswhich is very interesting so young.

To finish me, GG Jackson must become this player capable of being influential on both sides of the field. His high defensive potential makes him a player who will certainly be coveted by many franchises. He will have to progress in different offensive aspects but the natural attributes are indeed present.

DRAFT 202 PREDICTION3

Lottery Picks (Places 15-25)

Potentially interested teams: Utah Jazz, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat

GG Jackson’s defensive potential could lead the Jazz to seriously consider the profile of the young player. With a fairly phenomenal margin for improvement, the winger could provide long-term guarantees to a franchise in full reconstruction and in need of talent. On a strong wing position, he would bring in the rotation and would have time to develop serenely. The low attractiveness of the city could be a positive factor preventing him from escapades and deviations.

Another team in full reconstruction and having a strong need for a player in the racket, Brooklyn. Released in the first round of the Playoffs by the Sixers, Jacque Vaughn’s team could try the South Carolina player’s bet. Surrounded by shooters and defenders, it could create a real identity and Jackson could thus tackle being decisive near the circle.

Finally, Miami has a lot of shooters in their roster and getting such a young player with a totally different profile from what they currently have would be positive. In the Spoelstra system, Jackson would flourish for sure and could in fact reveal his full potential especially defensively.

YOU SHUT UP CCS :  Tier « Rotation importante »

An extremely young player, it will take time for GG Jackson to assert himself as a player who matters. We will be attentive to his mentality and his ability to manage the frustration that entering the big league can cause. He shouldn’t be used regularly at first, but his high defensive potential could guarantee him a few minutes here and there. It is then up to him to make this playing time profitable.

*Thirds of the CCS, explanations. It is very difficult to estimate the future of a prospect. To best embrace the potential of these young players, the CCS offers you a hierarchy by “thirds”, or “groups with potential”.
Groupe 1 : Tier « Franchise Player », player who can become the leader of a competitive team.
Group 2: “All-Star Caliber” Tiereasy to guess, the prospect has the potential to become an All Star.
Group 3: Tier “Starter/6th man”important role player or leader of the second unit.
Group 4: “High Rotation” Tier8th or 9th, always valuable with a defined role.
Group 5: Tier “End of Rotation”10th or 12th man with few minutes, a limited ceiling but able to render precious services.
Groupe 6 : Tier « G-League/2Way »for them, it will be necessary to fight to hope for a future in the NBA, but everything is possible for late hatching.
