The Ellucian Foundation has revealed that South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) is among 25 two-year colleges in the United States chosen to receive the 2023 Progress, Accomplishment, Thriving, Hope (PATH) Scholarship.

PATH Scholarship supports students facing economic challenges and disruptions in their education. The Ellucian foundation aims to remove obstacles that ma keep students from staying in school and developing skills for the workforce.

Lana Fontenot, Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement and External Relations, celebrated the award on Monday. Fontenot said,

These funds will help the many students at SLCC who are one flat tire, one sick child, or one week of reduced hours at work to remain in school this semester. If we can keep a student from dropping out due to life’s curveballs, they are one step closer to creating a better life for themselves and their families.

Laura Ipsen, President and CEO of Ellucian, emphasized the importance of supporting students by providing grants ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 to cover expenses like housing, tuition, and food. Individual students can receive up to $1,500. Public two-year institutions eligible for Federal Title IV Student aid programs in the U.S. were invited to apply, with a strong encouragement for minority-serving Institutions.

The PATH Scholarship extends beyond the U.S., inviting applications from not-for-profit higher education institutions in several countries, with awardees outside the U.S. to be announced in the coming months.
