This Monday evening was the ceremony to award the Raymond Goethals and Dominique D’Onofrio trophies.
Since 2011, the Raymond Goethals trophy has rewarded the best Belgian coach of the past calendar year. The three nominees were Hein Vanhaezebrouck, Will Still and Wouter Vrancken. The jury is made up of former Red Devils coaches, former winners of the trophy, referees and members of the organization.
Vanhaezebrouck thus won the trophy for the year 2023. The coach of La Gantoise won the Europe Play-offs and reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League. He had already won the Goethals Trophy in 2015, the year of La Gantoise’s title.
This can be considered a surprise: Vrancken indeed came very close to the Pro League title with Genk and Still was the revelation of last season on the Ligue 1 benches.
Arthur Vermeeren won the Dominique D’Onofrio trophy, rewarding the best Pro League debutant under the age of 20. The young Red Devil has completely exploded this year in Antwerp.
