Aver the last few weeks, several tens of thousands of people have spoken on the official platform put online by the organizers of the 2026 Olympic Games to decide between the two duos proposed to become in fine the mascots of the Olympic and Paralympic event.
The public thus had the choice between the duo Fioriconsisting of a stylized representation of two emblematic plants of the mountains, namely an edelweiss and a snowdrop, and the duo Stoatsin the guise – and as its name suggests – of two ermines.
Also, at the end of the open ballot on February 08, 2023the second proposal received the most votes, as reported this Wednesday, March 1, the transalpine press agency ANSA the day following the closing of the votes.
In fact, with 53% of the votes, Stoats has established itself and will soon be inducted as the mascot duo of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games.
Designed by students of theComprehensive Institute of Taverna (Catanzaro), said duo tells a story around two ermines, one with a white coat, the other with a brown coat with for this one, a white spot on the belly.
As part of the story desired by the organizers, these two stoats will have to overcome obstacles, in particular by trying out all the sports disciplines represented at the Winter Games, to reach the slopes and ice rinks in 2026, as an active supporter of the athletes and an ally of the many hoped-for spectators in the stands.
Beyond symbolism, these two characters also carry an educational message in terms of taking into account issues related to climate change and the preservation of natural environments and resources.
Before arriving at this choice of the public – for which an official presentation will take place later – the process established by the organizers of the 2026 Olympic Games to select the mascots had mobilized some 1,600 proposals from 681 classes and 82 institutes spread over the 81 provinces representing Italian regions.
Following receipt of all of these proposals, an Evaluation Commission was set up to pre-select duos, before the Sanremo Festival is – once once more – called upon to serve as a framework for the preparations for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games.
It is indeed on the stage of the famous musical meeting that the duos Fiori et Stoats were unveiled at the beginning of February, one year following the presentation of the official song of the Gameset two years following the reveal of the emblem.
