The solar eclipse has come and gone throughout most of the United States and our path of totality here in western New York, leaving many to wonder when they can anticipate the next such astronomical event.

While Rochester was in the path of totality for the 2024 total solar eclipse, residents throughout the state were left eager to see it again.

While another total solar eclipse is coming later this century, it will only be a partial eclipse in New York. What’s the other catch? It won’t be for another 20 years.

When is the next total eclipse in U.S. after 2024?

If that does not end up fitting into your schedule (or you want something a bit closer), you’re in luck! Eleven years later, there will be one on Aug. 23, 2044. However, the only states in the path of totality will be Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
