Philod participated for the first time in the African Cup of Nations finals, following coming close to that on more than one occasion.
The French coach (64 years old) was shot in the arm during an attack on the Togolese national team bus by separatists in the Angolan enclave of Cabinda, prior to the 2010 Nations Cup.
Philod returned home with the rest of the Togolese national team before the start of the tournament.
