Walsh shaved a little under three tenths off her own preliminary record time, though her mark remained just over a tenth off her American and U.S. Open record of 24.51 set at United States Nationals in late August. Earlier in the evening session, Reuters pulled off an upset in the women’s 200-meter freestyle (Yahoo Sports). Canada’s Reuters made a move in the closing stages, but Pallister responded on the final 50 meters to touch first in 1:53.67. Pallister won by 0.19 seconds, setting a new championship record (Yahoo Sports). New Zealand’s Reuters finished third.
