The decision by the FIFA leadership on Wednesday to host the 2030 World Cup in six countries on three continents also caught the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) unprepared.
ÖFB President Klaus Mitterdorfer welcomes the idea of wanting to connect countries and continents with the tournament, but at the same time he points out aspects of the planned tournament that need to be critically questioned, such as climate and environmental protection.
