21 confirmed cases of monkeypox infection

AA / Washington

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that it has found 21 confirmed cases of monkeypox infection in the United States.

The CDC (government) said in a statement that they had not detected any deaths in the country, following a monkeypox infection.

The same source explained that they had distributed vaccines against monkeypox, and that the country “has sufficient stocks to deal with an epidemic”.

In the same context, the American press agency Associated Press reported the statements of American officials, this Friday, which made it known that “two variants of monkey pox have been discovered in the United States”.

Federal health officials said genetic analysis of recent cases of monkeypox “indicates the presence of two different variants in the United States, increasing the possibility that the virus may be spreading undetected for some time.” .

They said that many cases of infection in the United States were “begotten by the same causes that led to the emergence of cases of infection in Europe”.

The World Health Organization confirmed on Wednesday that it had identified more than 550 confirmed cases of monkeypox in 30 countries where the disease is not endemic.

In a press conference, World Health Organization director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the majority of confirmed cases “are of men who have had same-sex relations with people who show symptoms of the disease. “.

He described the current health situation as “evolving”, and added: “We anticipate that more cases will continue to be discovered”.

Symptoms of monkeypox appear as fever, swollen lymph nodes and muscle aches, with signs of fatigue, chills and a rash, similar to chickenpox, on the hands and the face, soles of the feet, genitals and other parts of the body.

Monkeypox was first discovered in 1958, when a disease similar to smallpox appeared in laboratory monkeys, hence the name of the disease.
