2nd year of the coup to end the military dictatorship Myanmar people rally in Seoul

Two years ahead of the Myanmar military coup, Myanmar residents in Korea gathered in Seoul to call for an end to the military dictatorship.

About 150 members of groups such as the Myanmar Democracy Civic Group held a press conference at 12:00 noon on the 29th near the Myanmar Embassy in Seoul located in Oksu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, and said, “Until the goal of condemning and dismantling the military and ruling the government by the people is achieved. We will never back down and fight.”

They said, “The military coup by Supreme Commander Min Aung Hlaing is an illegal act, and the insurgents are the worst terrorist group.” condemned it.

They held the flag of the Civil Defense Force (PDF) with a white star on a red background and gave a ‘three finger salute’ to resist the military coup.

According to the human rights group Political Prisoner Support Association (AAPP), about 17,500 people have been arrested since the military coup in Myanmar on February 1, 2021, and more than 13,500 of them are in custody.

2,900 people died as a result of military violence.

The National Unity Government (NUG), the provisional government of the democratic camp, said that over 41,000 houses were burned or destroyed by the Myanmar army in the past year.

Somotu, Secretary General of the Korean Mission to NUG, said, “As the size of PDF is growing and we are winning in many places, we will make this year the first year of the end of military dictatorship. I hope that Koreans will also support the Myanmar people who have been fighting for two years.”

After delivering a letter of protest to the Myanmar embassy attaché, the group marched to the Myanmar embassy in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu.

The group plans to hold a press conference in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar on the 1st of next month, the second anniversary of the coup, and release a statement criticizing the military dictatorship.
