3 reasons why Georgia are overwhelming favorites to repeat

They still have two games to win, but Georgia should be a solid one to repeat anyway.

With the Georgia Bulldogs still two games ahead of them, it would be more shocking than not if anyone other than Kirby Smart’s team won the 2023 College Football Playoff.

Georgia is the defending national champion. The Dawgs haven’t lost a game in a year. They are on the nation’s best 15-game winning streak. Of course, they still have to beat No. 4 Ohio State at the Peach Bowl and then either Michigan (No. 2) or TCU (No. 3) in the national title game in Los Angeles to become the first team since Alabama from 2011-2012 to be National College Football Champions again.

Here are a few things I keep coming back to that make me think Georgia is likely to win the title.

Why Georgia should be considered the overwhelming favorite in the competition.

3. Georgia lives to play with its food, but can rise above its self-inflicted adversity

One of the things that bothered last year’s national champion squad was that the 2021 Dawgs weren’t widely tested throughout the campaign. They usually knocked out all of their opponents, but it caught up with them in the SEC Championship game against Alabama. Fate willed that bitter taste of defeat to propel them into the playoffs and into this season.

This year, Georgia has been tested by the opposition, mostly by its own doing. After knocking out Oregon and South Carolina in the first quarter of the season, the Dawgs struggled at times with teams like Kent State, Missouri, Kentucky and even Georgia Tech. In short, the Dawgs lived to play with their food, but probably out of boredom more than anything.

Granted, it may sound silly, but these circumstances created an artificial sense of adversity that the team had to overcome. The Dawgs were honing in on themselves and realizing they weren’t going to let an inferior team beat them. While that hasn’t been the case against teams that Georgia has a lot of respect for, we know the Dawgs are capable of overcoming adversity from within.

In other words, if the game is close, Georgia is not going to flinch in the face of adversity.
