The three were buried in an avalanche in the Mölltaler Gletscher ski area (Spittal an der Drau district) in the morning – and were uninjured.
The three Slovakians drove into the open-air area from the mountain station of the Gletscherjet cable car with skis and a snowboard at around 9.45 a.m.
A slab of snow came loose and buried a ski that one of the athletes had lost.
Only feet stuck out of the snow
The three tried to locate the ski using avalanche probes. They were finally caught in the avalanche – while the two men were able to free themselves, the woman was completely buried, with only her foot sticking out of the snow.
However, she was quickly dug out by her companions and other athletes. And according to the police, they escaped with a shock.
