The warmest October day since measurements began was determined today, Tuesday: At the Geosphere Austria (formerly ZAMG) weather station in Langenlebarn (Lower Austria), a new Austrian record was reached for October at 30.3 degrees (as of 4:40 p.m.). Many other weather stations also set new October temperature records for the respective measuring locations on Monday and Tuesday, the weather and climate experts reported in the late afternoon.

The highest temperature ever measured in an October in Austria was 30.2 degrees on October 4, 1966 in Fussach in Vorarlberg. Second place was 30.1 degrees on October 1, 1956 in Eisenstadt. The value determined on Tuesday, like all measurements in the following days, must now go through the routine data verification procedures before it is officially recognized as a record, Geosphere said.

In any case, Langenlebarn also achieved a new October record for the federal state of Lower Austria. In Salzburg and Upper Austria, exactly the previous federal state record was achieved on Tuesday: In Upper Austria, 28.6 degrees were measured in Weyer – the previous Upper Austria record was also 28.6 degrees, measured on October 5, 2000, also in Weyer . In Salzburg, 28.3 degrees were reached at Salzburg Airport. According to Geosphere, this corresponds exactly to the previous Salzburg record of 28.3 degrees on October 1, 1996 in Abtenau and on October 16, 1987 in Unken.

There were also high temperatures in the high mountains: at the Rudolfshütte weather station (Salzburg) in the Hohe Tauern, at 2,317 meters above sea level, a new October record of 16.8 degrees was also registered on Tuesday. On Monday it was already 16.6 degrees. Measurements have been taking place here since 1961. At Geosphere Austria’s Sonnblick Observatory, at 3,109 meters above sea level, it was 8.9 degrees on Tuesday – the sixth highest value in an October at this location since measurements began in 1886.
