30 Years of Taratata: A Legendary Musical Show Celebrates with 40,000 Spectators at Paris La Défense Arena

To think that exactly ten years ago, Nagui was fighting on the Internet for the survival of “Taratata”, first relegated to impossible nighttime hours on France 2 then completely ousted from France Télévisions. This Thursday evening, he celebrates the thirty years of his musical show with 40,000 spectators at Paris La Défense Arena, in Nanterre. And the artists he received for three decades on his plateau in Plaine Saint-Denis are there. There will be eighty-four of them joining him on the immense diamond-shaped central stage throughout an evening which will go down in the annals of French television and will be broadcast in November on France 2…. Obviously in prime time .

Nagui succeeded in his somewhat crazy challenge of filling the largest indoor performance hall in Europe. At around 8 p.m., a few minutes before the start of the concert, he can boast a bit while addressing the audience. “Thank you so much for being here. Thanks to your tickets, we have already raised 1.2 million euros for the Foundation for Medical Research. You will do a lot of good in the fight against cancer. You are the Nobel Prize winners in medicine this evening. It is thanks to your loyalty that “Taratata” is still here. And to two women, Marie-France Brière, who believed in us when it was created, and Delphine Ernotte, who brought it back eight years ago on France 2.”

“Are we making this evening unforgettable together?” »

40,000 spectators in the stands of the largest indoor performance hall in Europe.

Surrounded by the best musicians in the country – there are no less than twenty-eight and six singers accompanying the singers – the host says: “Are we making this evening unforgettable together? » The clamor is equal to the event. And the first guests too. Zazie, who was in the very first broadcast on January 10, 1993 with Pascal Obispo and Bernard Lavilliers, Jean-Louis Aubert, Raphaël and Axel Bauer, launched the concert in rock mode with two classics from Téléphone, “Un autre monde” and “Ca (it’s really you)”, which everyone sings. Véronique Sanson comes to perform her “Bernard’s song” surrounded by Vianney, Grand Corps Malade and Marc Lavoine. Their pleasure is infectious.

The third and fourth paintings well summarize the spirit of both discovery and heritage of “Taratata”. Juliette Armanet, Jain and Jeanne Added, three singers highlighted very early on by the show, cover “Don’t Speak”, No Doubt’s hit. And since it’s live and direct, the song takes a while to start because one of the microphones doesn’t work. And new ovation, Eddy Mitchell, who we had not seen on a big stage since “Les Vieilles Canailles” in 2017, takes up “La Dernier Séance” and “On credit and in stereo” with Thomas Dutronc, Paul Personne and Axel Bauer on guitars.

Overall good sound

There is no question of revealing the entire program, especially since the concert lasted 3 hours 40 minutes and it will necessarily be cut for the TV version. Among the highlights of the show, there was the new cover in French of “Goodbye Stranger” by Supertramp by Matthieu Chedid, Emma Peters and Charlie Winston, joined on a groovy finale by trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf, and the beautiful meeting between Michel Jonasz, Patrick Bruel, Claire Keim, Cali and La Grande Sophie on “Super nana”. “Great audience” said Jonasz, who like many of the artists present rarely performs in front of so many people.

This is the case of Vincent Delerm, chambered by Nagui, who finds himself alone at the piano and plays it with humor and self-mockery, as he knows how to do so well, before frolicking on “Les Champs-Elysées” by Joe Dassin, definitely very popular this evening, like the Rolling Stones. La Grande Sophie also surprises by making us dance with “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees, Cali slips perfectly into Michel Delpech’s costume for a “Flirt avec toi”, the all too rare Claire Keim brilliantly takes over the “Resist” by France Gall. Excellent surprise in this huge room which is difficult to provide sound, the sound is generally good.

International star Ed Sheeran paid Nagui the best compliment of the evening: “Taratata is my favorite TV show in the world.”

Finally, we really liked the friendly “battle” between Louise Attaque and Dionysos on their respective songs, followed by an unexpected cover by Joe Dassin with Sharleen Spiteri. The singer from Texas was not the only international artist faithful to the meeting. Zucchero and Ed Sheeran also got the room heated, especially as the second paid Nagui the best compliment of the evening: “Taratata is my favorite TV show in the world”.

Nile Rodgers had never come to Nagui’s house. But at the end of the evening, the voice and guitar of the group Chic were unanimous with its smile, its groove and its unstoppable hits, “Le freak”, “Get Lucky”, created with Daft Punk, and finally “Good Times », where he was joined by a great group of rappers, MC Solaar, Féfé, Black M and Oli, who all competed in virtuosity and generosity. We can bet that this funk superstar, whose combativeness in the face of several cancers and longevity command respect, will soon return in “Taratata”.
