33-year-old man stabbed to death in Huizingen: 17-year-old girl suspected of stabbing

A 17-year-old girl is suspected of having stabbed her 33-year-old stepfather in Huizingen (Flemish Brabant) on Sunday, the Hal-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office announced. The man did not survive the stab wounds. An investigating judge was seized by the prosecution for murder and the teenager will be brought before the juvenile judge. The prosecution requests that she be placed in a closed institution, according to Carol Vercarre, spokesperson for the prosecution.

The victim lived in Huizingen with his partner and her four children, the eldest of whom, already an adult, was not present on Sunday. The two girls aged 13 and 17 and the 15 year old boy were present in the house. “According to the medical examiner, the man lost his life following a stab wound in the region of the heart and lungs”says the spokesperson for the prosecution. “The mother and two of the minor children have already been interviewed. An argument allegedly took place between the 17-year-old daughter and her stepfather, during which she threatened him with a knife.”

The teenager claims the man took the knife and stabbed himself, but that does not appear to match the medical examiner’s findings, prosecutors say. The mother and her 13-year-old daughter would not have seen the scene, being in another part of the house. The 15-year-old son would have been present during the facts and has yet to be auditioned. “The prosecution went to the scene this morning with the investigating judge”adds Carol Vercarre. “For the 17-year-old girl, the juvenile judge will be seized by the prosecution who will ask that she be placed in a closed institution. An autopsy of the victim’s body will take place tomorrow.”
