The CCTV footage that led to the arrest of Solomon Galligan, 33, was first shown Monday to the families of the children involved in the terrifying ordeal at Black Forest Hills Elementary School in Aurora last Friday, according to CBS Colorado.
“It was hard — it was really hard,” said one parent, Dante White, when he saw the video that proved his child wasn’t exaggerating how scary the scene was.
The video shows a figure holding a blanket walking next to a fence as more than a dozen young students innocently play outside during recess.
The children then run away as the suspected kidnapper runs toward them, with some shouting, “Stranger danger,” according to previously released documents.
Solomon Galligan managed to catch a child but he escaped when Galligan tripped and lost his balance.
According to the complaint, the child the man was chasing told authorities the suspect had long dreadlocked hair and was wearing dark pants and a blue hooded sweatshirt.
A teacher’s aide yelled at the suspect who fled as another approached.
The child reported that he had white powder on his face and smelled of alcohol. Shortly after the incident, a parent alerted school staff that a man matching the suspect’s description was located nearby.
When officers approached Galligan at the pharmacy, he claimed he had been assaulted and asked to be taken to the hospital. After an investigation, Authorities discovered that Galligan was a registered sex offender.
In particular, they discovered that in 2011 he had been convicted of sexual intercourse without the will of the other person.
Galligan was arrested for second-degree kidnapping. He is currently being held in the Arapahoe County Jail on $25,000 cash or bond. Galligan, who identifies as male, has previously shared posts about his gender transition.
