2023-10-26 12:16:00

Students and teachers from across the state will participate in the 34th Pumpkin Dropa design competition that puts students’ engineering concepts to the test, beginning at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow (Oct. 27).

Hundreds of K-12 teams have designed enclosures to protect pumpkins during an 11-story drop from the Engineering Sciences Building roof.

The top prize of $100 is awarded to the school whose team lands their intact pumpkin closest to the target center. Second-place prize is $50 and the third-place team will receive $25.

The event is sponsored by the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the WVU student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House Morgantown.
