On Friday night, storm Zoltan caused severe damage in parts of Austria. Upper Austria is particularly affected. According to “Oberösterreichische Nachrichten”, 3,400 firefighters had to be deployed on over 400 missions because of the storm. Due to the around 300 emergency calls before midnight alone, the staff at the state warning center was quadrupled. The Inn, Hausruck and Traunviertel were particularly affected. Gusts of up to 116 km/h were measured. There are currently no reports of injuries from Upper Austria. Shortly before midnight, according to ORF, up to 35,000 households were without power, and 3,500 are currently affected. According to “Oberösterreichische Nachrichten”, fire departments mainly had to clear traffic routes that were blocked by fallen or uprooted trees and secure covered roofs.
