39 people missing after boat capsizes

A Good Samaritan rescued a survivor floating on an overturned boat off Miami on Tuesday morning. A total of 39 people are missing, said the US Coast Guard, which suspects a “human smuggling” operation.

According to the testimony of the survivor, the boat left the island of Birmini, which is part of the Bahamas, and is located regarding 80 km east of Miami. The boat, which was carrying 40 people, capsized on Saturday night, reportedly due to bad weather. No one was wearing a life jacket.

The search continued Tuesday followingnoon to try to find possible survivors.
