INDONESIA placed four representatives in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) in Ningbo, China, Friday (12/4).

Women’s singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung will meet China’s second seed Chen Yu Fei. So far, Chen is 9-3 ahead of Gregoria. The last time they met was in the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open tournament, earlier this year, which Chen won.

In the men’s singles event, third seed Jonatan Christie will meet Lee Zii Jia from Malaysia. On paper, the two have met 9 times, with Leee winning 5-4 over Jonathan.

“I think everyone has an opportunity. It’s just a matter of who can take advantage of this opportunity,” said Jonathan in a short statement from PP PBSI.

Meanwhile, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting will face the fifth seed from China, Li Shi Feng. Until now, statistically, Ginting has a 4-1 lead over Li in five meetings.

“For the match against Li Shi Feng, of course (both players) already know each other, (we) have met many times. I will focus on myself,” said the second seed.

Indonesia’s final representatives, men’s doubles, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, will meet host representatives Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang.

It is predicted that the match will be exciting, considering that both of them are former world number ones in men’s doubles, and have had interesting dynamics over the past year.

“We haven’t met them for a long time. The last time was at the Malaysia Open 2024, early January. But after that our opponents experienced poor results. We are of course curious because we lost in the last few meetings. Now we want to face them,” said Fajar. (Ant/Z-3)
