4 times the capacity! Samsung’s first 512GB CXL memory expander released: support PCIe 5.0 interface | XFastest News

On May 10, Samsung announced the development of Samsung’s first 512 GB CXL memory expander (CXL, Compute Express Link) DRAM.

According to reports, the new CXL DRAM uses an application-specific integrated circuit CXL controller, and at the same time encapsulates 512GB of DDR5 DRAM for the first time. Compared with the previous Samsung CXL products, the memory capacity is 4 times that and the system latency is only one-fifth.

Later this month, Samsung will announce an updated version of its open source Scalable Memory Development Kit (SMDK).

It is worth mentioning that the 512GB CXL DRAM will be Samsung’s first memory device supporting the PCIe 5.0 interface. It adopts the EDSFF (E3.S) form factor and is suitable for the next generation of large-capacity enterprise servers and data centers.

Officials said that starting in the third quarter of this year, Samsung plans to provide customers and partners with samples of 512GB CXL DRAM for joint evaluation and testing, and plans to commercialize the CXL DRAM product with the launch of the next-generation server platform. prepare for.

It is understood that in May 2021, Samsung launched the first CXL DRAM prototype equipped with a field programmable gate array (FPGA) controller.
