Moscow: Russia is set to regulate surrogacy. Parliament Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said legislation would be passed to ban Russian women from surrogacy for foreigners. The draft law related to this was approved by the parliament members last May.
It is estimated that an average of 45,000 Russian women go abroad for surrogacy a year. Social organizations and religious groups are demanding that the sacred process of birth should not be commercialized.
Volodin said that everything must be done to ensure the protection of children. Mother’s Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of November in Russia. The speaker was speaking at a function related to this.
