The Tongeren criminal court on Friday sentenced a 46-year-old man from Assenede to 40 months in prison for the rape of a scout leader, now 21 years old. The man, who served as a parent-steward during a camp, will also have to pay the chef and her parents damages amounting to 12,000 euros.
The forty-year-old attacked this scout leader from the Eeklo Est troop on two occasions. The first time was during a barbecue at the end of November 2019. The chef and the man were chatting. The person concerned then raped the victim for the first time.
The second rape dates back to the summer of 2020, during a scout camp in Meeuwen-Gruitrode. After a night game, the leaders and the forty-year-old, who accompanied them as a parent steward, were sitting around a campfire. The leader then pointed out that she did not have a sleeping bag with her. The man then said he wanted to show her something in his room. When the victim accompanied him there, he turned off the light, threw her on the bed and raped her.
