«This strategic and industrial partnership (…) aims to support all of these players in their industrial, technological, scientific and regulatory deployment», argue the two companies, first winners of the call for projects “innovative nuclear reactors» from France 2030. «Our two companies want to simplify the work of public authorities and ultimately promote the development and deployment of 4th generation European nuclear power, in a context of strong global competition.», explained in particular Jean-Luc Alexandre, founding president of Naarea cited in the press release. “By joining forces, Newcleo and Naarea encourage the development and deployment of 4th generation nuclear technology in Europe“, said Stefano Buono, co-founder and CEO of Newcleo.

The two companies aim to participate in the renewal of the nuclear sector to decarbonize the industry, by betting for Newcleo on a mini-fast neutron reactor cooled with lead, and for the start-up Naarea on a micro-fast neutron generator and melted salts. nThese two technologies will use nuclear waste as fuel, assure their promoters, who are aiming for the first commercialization of their solutions “by 2030».

This partnership will allow the two companies and subsequently other players in the sector to “pool their efforts” and of “gain efficiency» by working on various areas of cooperation: access to used nuclear fuel, “optimisation» procedures with safety authorities, development of shared testing facilities, creation of a common research platform, etc. The two companies argue that this is a “complementary approach» to the creation of an industrial alliance for small modular reactors demanded by twelve European countries including France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland and Slovakia, an approach supported by the European Commission.
