Two younger men were trying to fell a pine tree when the top of an adjacent beech tree became entangled with the pine tree. The beech tree was torn from the ground and fell on the 59-year-old, who had wanted to help with the forestry work near his home.
Despite medical help and the use of the C12 emergency medical helicopter, only the man’s death could be determined, the Styria State Police Directorate announced in the evening. The Graz public prosecutor’s office released the body for burial and ordered an investigation into the crime of negligent homicide.
