Indications are that 5G, which is set to revolutionize the telecom-internet service sector, will not be available in the country so soon. According to reports, one has to wait six to eight months for the service to be available in 10 big cities of the country. Most important is the delay in installing the technical equipment for the 5G network in the current towers. Also the shortage of 5G equipment is creating a crisis.
The China-Taiwan conflict has adversely affected the global chip manufacturing industry. For these reasons, it may take at least a year to get full coverage in the first cities to implement 5G. Availability of the network will initially depend on how telcos deploy 5G. A 5G network can be deployed only in a small area with more coverage, or in more areas with less coverage. Reliance Jio and Airtel have announced that they will launch 5G services in August itself. Apart from these, Vodafone-Idea and Adani Group have acquired spectrum in the 5G auction.
