6 dead when bomb explodes during festivities

QUETA, Pakistan (AP) — A powerful bomb exploded Friday at a rally celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday in southwestern Pakistan, killing at least six people and wounding dozens more, police and a government official said.

The attack occurred in Mastung, a district in Balochistan province, said government administrator Atta Ullah. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals and some of them were in critical condition, he said.

Ullah did not provide further details.

Muslims in Pakistan and around the world celebrate the birthday of the prophet of Islam with public gatherings.
