682 packages of cocaine valued at US$9.2 million are seized in Escuintla

Authorities counted more than 600 packages of drugs at the Pacific Naval Base.

The Public Ministry (MP) reported this Friday, March 15, that personnel from the Narcotics Crimes Prosecutor’s Office in conjunction with the General Subdirectorate of Analysis of Anti-Narcotics Information processed 23 packages with illicit drugs at the Pacific Naval Base, in Escuintla.

The packages were found in an illegal vessel that was intercepted by the National Defense Navy on the Pacific coast.

While the National Civil Police reported the count of the illegal packages located by the National Defense Navy. Investigators located 682 packages.

The MP added that he carried out an inspection and registration procedure for a vessel intercepted 144 nautical miles from Puerto Quetzal.

The vessel was later transferred to the Pacific Naval Base, in Puerto San José.

During the investigation, investigators seized 23 packages containing 682 packages that gave a presumptive positive result for cocaine, with an estimated value of US$9.2 million.

On March 11, Guatemalan authorities seized more than two tons of cocaine in three boats intercepted in the Pacific and captured 11 people, including six Mexicans and two Ecuadorians.

The vessels were intercepted during different patrols by the National Navy, Army spokesperson Rubén Téllez indicated on that occasion.
