7.2 magnitude earthquake strikes Papua New Guinea

An earthquake was recorded in Papua New Guinea, its magnitude was 7.2. This is evidenced data European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

The epicenter of the shocks was located 38 km southeast of the city of Ambunti, whose population is about 2 thousand people. The source lay at a depth of 73 km.

The last time an earthquake of magnitude greater than 7 occurred in Papua New Guinea in September 2022. Then, because of the tremors, a tsunami threat was announced.
