MEXICO CITY (AP) — Authorities on Saturday were investigating the discovery of seven dismembered bodies in the heart of the city of Chilpancingo, capital of the southern state of Guerrero.
The state prosecutor’s office indicated at night in a statement that along with the “mutilated bodies” they found “various indications that contain relevant information to be analyzed” although it did not specify what it was regarding.
The limbs of the corpses were lying on the street and some human heads were found in a vehicle next to posters containing threats once morest members of the city council, according to various media.
The prosecutor’s office did not confirm these aspects in its statement, but it did mention that “the agency is intolerant of acts of corruption by its own public servants and those outside the institution.”
The identity of the victims is still unknown.
Guerrero is a state with a high incidence of organized crime, with different groups fighting for control of the territory. It is also the region where in 2014 one of the crimes with the greatest impact inside and outside the country took place: the disappearance of 43 students from a school for rural teachers.
