AS many as eight Indonesian badminton players received heavy sanctions from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) or the Badminton World Body. Three Indonesian badminton players have been banned from playing for life, and five others have been suspended for varying periods of time.
Sanctions are given after being found guilty of match fixing, bribery and/or betting by the sports body.
According to the official BWF website, Hendra Tandjaya, a former professional men’s doubles and mixed doubles player from 2014 to 2017, is at the center of this scandal.
Because, he not only participated in the illegal scheme but also offered money to his compatriots to fix the matches.
As a result, Hendra, along with his accomplices, Ivandi Danang and Androw Yunanto, were banned from carrying out all ‘activities related to badminton’ for life.
This match fixing scandal occurred in several tournaments, including those held in Indonesia in 2014, Scottish Open Grand Prix (2015), Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open (2016), Macau Open (2016), Syed Modi International Badminton Championship (2017) , Yonex Chinese Open in Taipei (2017), US Open Grand Prix (2017), Sky City New Zealand Open (2017), and Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open (2017).

1. Hendra Tandjaya, banned from competing for life
