87-Year-Old Driver Loses Control, Crashes Car Into Supermarket

The facts took place this morning, around 11 am. The exact circumstances of the accident are under investigation, but police suspect that the 87-year-old victim suffered from discomfort while driving before losing control of the vehicle.

“We suddenly heard a loud noise,” said a customer who stood at the Colruyt checkout to our colleagues from Gazet Van Antwerpen. “At first we thought a shelf had fallen, but it was when we saw a big cloud of dust and debris flying around, that we realized. There was a big hole in the wall and then I realized that a car had entered the store”.

If the facade of the store is damaged, the structure of the building is however not affected. The supermarket might therefore reopen its doors soon.
