Almost nine out of ten Austrians consciously save energy in their households. In a survey, 88 percent agreed with this. Six out of ten people surveyed would like more information about energy alternatives. Politicians also want solutions to the issue of energy efficiency that can be applied in one’s own home. This is shown by a survey for “ImmoScout24” among 1,000 Austrians.

Homeowners and people over 50 save the most. Only twelve percent do not take any measures to save energy in their own home. Saving behavior is particularly pronounced in the 50-plus generation. 93 percent of this age category reduces their consumption, compared to 84 percent of 18 to 29 year olds. Homeowners (91 percent) and everyone who lives in properties over 130 square meters (92 percent) are also taking more measures than the average of 88 percent. Looking at the federal states, Upper Austrians and Salzburgers are the most frugal (90 percent).

The Austrian population is sensitized to energy efficiency and energy saving. For 74 percent, saving energy in their own home is currently a very high priority. Accordingly, 83 percent consider energy efficiency in their own four walls to be very important. However, they are clearly demanding more solutions from politicians. Six out of ten respondents would like more information about energy alternatives for their own homes and say they currently know far too little about them. This applies particularly to the young generation up to the age of 30 (69 percent).

More than two thirds of Austrians (71 percent) think it is very important to make a contribution to saving energy and are therefore prepared to accept restrictions. 78 percent of those surveyed are aware that climate change has a direct impact on their own home and will have an even greater impact in the future. However, the issue of climate protection is only the main reason for saving energy for 14 percent. Around a third see climate protection as a positive side effect when saving energy and 42 cite it as another important but not decisive reason.

But not everyone is relaxed about the topic of energy saving, at least in the survey. 30 percent feel that their quality of life is restricted in their own home. Among 18 to 29 year olds, 37 percent even agree with this statement.
