90 days with the Unreal Engine 5: the visual slaps of the artists in video | Xbox One

After learning that many new games such as Avowed, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 or State of Decay 3 are developed with the Unreal Engine 5, today we have the opportunity to see more of the capabilities of the graphics engine. Watch out, it’s gorgeous!

Diversified biomes with wonderful graphics

For several years, Epic Games has been promoting its graphics engine very extensively. Advertisements, free use, free assets, ease of use and technical prowess have made this engine one of the great references of graphics engines cut for everyone.

With the implementation in 2020 of the Quixel library that makes it easy to get a large amount of high-quality assets, more artists have started trying out the engine. The Unreal Engine 5 was released recently for the general public, but the impressive videos are already starting to proliferate on Youtube.

This new demonstration created by artists takes us to different lands with very varied graphic styles. Whatever the environment shown, one can only be enthusiastic when seeing such sumptuous panoramas. If the first technical videos of the new engine had the concern of lacking artistic direction, we can now see its full potential.

The artists behind this project have set themselves a challenge: to create a coherent universe, graphically sumptuous and in real time. The most impressive fact is that each of these environments was individually created within 3 days and by only 3 people. All that remains is to wait for major games to take full advantage of them once again! In April, we learned that at least 8 Xbox studios were working on Unreal Engine 5.

Finally, let’s remember that these videos are “only” assets put together with nice lighting and other rendering techniques, but that this in no way reflects the complexity of a video game which must also manage many things dynamically. such as characters, physics, artificial intelligence, quests and other unforeseen events.
