“A Moroccan Winter” the Artcurial auction at La Mamounia.

Artcurial Maroc closed the 5th edition of the “Un Winter Marocain” auction, successfully organized at Mamounia Marrakech and raising nearly 54 million DH.

This auction is divided into three chapters entitled: “Majorelle and his contemporaries”, “Modern and contemporary art” and “African contemporary art”.

An event which was a great success and confirms Morocco’s positioning in the international art market. The enthusiasm shown for the works for sale is a sign of the right approach taken, essentially indicates the auction house, Artcurial Maroc.

After four days of exhibition at the gallery Venice Setting in Casablanca, followed by four more at the Mamounia, art lovers and professionals from all over the world have rushed to sell “a Moroccan Winter”, with real enthusiasm.

It should be noted that despite the constraints imposed by the sanitary measures, the event is a success, once once more confirming the solidity of the Moroccan art market.

The auctions were prized at the Mamounia in the ocher city, as well as in duplex in Paris and live on the Artcurial site. Over 120 clients attended, from 30 different countries. Not to mention the telephone bidders who were more than 160, further clarified the auction house in a press release.

“Morocco and Marrakech are consolidating their place on the chessboard of the international art market. 54 MDH is a tremendous result and our best vacation, since our installation in 2019 ”, declared the director of Artcurial Maroc, Olivier Berman, quoted in the press release.

Several pieces have been the subject of beautiful battles

“Despite a difficult context, Moroccan and international collectors responded, indoors, on the live Bid of the Artcurial site as well as on the telephone, provoking great bidding battles in the various chapters of this session”, a – t he added once more. The director of Artcurial Maroc immediately informed that the next edition would be held in May 2022.

For his part, Christophe Person, director of the Contemporary African Art department of Artcurial, affirmed that “for this auction, the majority of works of contemporary African art have found takers. And, several pieces have been the subject of battles between bidders on the phone, on the internet and with collectors in the room ”.

Another proof of the consolidation of the contemporary and African art market in Morocco. This sale will have totaled nearly 54 million DH, including 12 millionaire auctions and 2 world records.

In addition, the entire auction for a dozen works by Moroccan artists was paid to the “Chourouk” association, to build a nursery school in Tahanaout, near Marrakech.
