Hikma (48), a resident of Palu, Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi) reveals the sad story of his late son Upin and Ipin whose grave went viral recently. Hikma said his two sons had a very short age.
“The first one (Upin) who was only 2 weeks old died,” said Hikma recalling the story of his son, when met detik.com, Friday (21/1/2022).
Hikma said that Upin suddenly had a fever in August 1995. The condition continued to worsen until Upin was declared dead when he was only two weeks old.
Then in April 1996, Hikma’s second son was born. However, a similar condition occurred, the second son who was later named Ipin also died of a fever.
“The first one was only 2 weeks old, he died. The younger brother only took 3 days. He was sick, had a cold, had a fever. His younger brother was the same,” said Hikma.
Hikma’s bitter reality did not end there. The mother of Upin and Ipin, Marlina, died a few years later.
“(Her mother’s name) is Marlina, deceased. She died in 1999,” Hikma said.
Although Upin has died since August 1995 and Ipin died in April 1996, the tombstones in the graves of the two babies were only given names in 2016. Before that, Hikma did not give names to the two late babies.
Hikma admits that the names Upin and Ipin were inspired by the Malaysian animation, which has twin brothers Upin and Ipin as the main characters.
“When there was sustenance in 2016 we repaired (the grave). At that time there was no name, at that time there was an Upin Ipin film. So we gave the name Upin Ipin only,” said Hikma.
Regarding his son’s grave which went viral, Hikma admitted that he only realized it when a number of media crews asked for confirmation. As his son’s grave went viral, he asked the public to send prayers.
“If I just ask for prayers to the community, the important thing is not to harm each other,” said Hikma.
